End of Millenium- Greatest Hits Up until now everything was fairly normal driving on my new winter tires, Michelin Arctic Alpins, but suddenly for a moment on a not exciting part of the road my tires seemed to slip from under me. All day and all the 100 miles home from the wheel shop, I felt fine on the tires. It was as if a coating had burned off, or the tires got to hot and melted, or something, I dunno. It felt like I slipped on a banana peel. I checked the tires, all seemed well. For the rest of the drive I drove much slower than I would have, learning the new tires. In a way that hurt, as these were the finest roads we have at the most perfect time of year to drive them. But in another way, it was a challenge and the roads were still beautiful. I found myself promising Emmy not only the best summer tires, but new wheels to make up for this. I tell you, I found the Northeast Dragon, it's as close as you can get to the real thing (although nothing comes close to the Dragon.) Speaking of "the real thing". I am sorry to offend but the best analogy I can make for driving with the snow tires on is like sex with a condom. Like, you don't do it like you would do without because you are afraid of breaking it, but you do it because it is the safe thing to do and you get happy with that. There was some discussion of calling this drive the "Safe Sex Tour". I had figured out a route of unpublished roads to make our way to Seven Lakes Drive, they turned out to be each more wonderful than the next, and Seven Lakes Drive did not disappoint. You won't see pics of the charming little hamlets we passed, or the flocks of birds, or dancing storms of leaves we drove through- there's one pic of one of the lakes.
