Oy, the storage...
This is a shonda.
This storage space looked fairly
useless. To use it a driver would have to facing backwards, once
open it looks like items would tumble out. The open door has an
elastic strap, the idea being one would strap their cell phone in.
What were they thinking? Who would do that? Whose cell phone is
that big? What about using the phone (hands free of course)? The
upper "door" is not storage.
Jim B explains:
The opening storage compartment has three areas, the lower in
which the CD changer resides, the middle for my CD case, and the
top for the misc. items. There is what APPEARS to be another compartment
above, but it does not open; what appears to be a latch is a release
for the manual top and apparently an emergency release for the powered
version.
That's an advantage- I don't think there is a manual release for
the auto top on the Z3.(?) I know there isn't one for the seat controls. |
Jim and Andrew have the 6 CD changer installed in the storage unit. Jim writes:
The storage unit is pre-wired for the 6 CD changer, my dealer
installed it in order to complete the options that I had requested.
But it was a 3+ hour task, not the same easy one as hanging the
changer in the trunk on the MZ3. You have to essentially disassemble
the central storage compartment area. |
Jim B adds:
Surprised that you overlooked the glove box - although it's so darn small
it was probably easy to miss. The standard joke is that is what it can
hold - "A" glove, as in the singular. :( Yeah, the Z4 glove box is about the same size as the UK
one in your photo - virtually useless - and you have to
drop it out (relatively easy to do) to get to the fuse
box.
And if it's too full you can inadvertently push stuff in
behind it when you push it closed - as happened to
my wife's passport when we down in the US a month
back. I thought for a moment I'd have to leave her
there when I came back!
(I need to get a pic of the Z4 glovebox)

Well, maybe the smaller glove box wont sag!
The steering wheel height is adjustable. Just be very careful to return
the lever to it's upright position, else you might find your rooster has
turned into a hen. I wonder if the wear marks around the ignition are
typical.
The roof is cool. As one snake fang reaches out to the catch. Just be
sure to complete the cycle. I was so afraid I would break something, we
discovered that the roof is pretty versatile, going up, down, stopping
midway... no panic. Still, the roof acting as it's own boot leaves something
to be desired, exposing convertible guts on either side. |
