Try a 10" Kicker SoloBaric with a lot of power pumped to it from your amp. I had a '96 1.9 with 240 watts feeding a 10" Kicker SoloBaric and enjoyed good bass without any porting.

If you do decide to port, you could do it something like

The honeycombing preserves the strength of that slanted wall better than a single large hole. You would want to seal the box for the sub against the metal wall with a gasket to ensure all sound went into the cabin instead of bouncing around the trunk.
