I do not like to disagree with anyone, especially my friend Jon Shafer on the other side of our great United States. However, the recent posts to the message board about the window blanket have prompted me to do a little research on the subject.
Here is what I believe to be true:
1. Z3's are delivered from the factory to the dealer without a window blanket. (except for those Z3's with a factory hard-top)
2. Most dealers put the window blanket in the trunk of the Z3 as a part of the PDI (pre-delivery inspection) procedure and are paid by BMW for the window blanket under defect code 72 60 77 77 BV.
3. Most sales people make sure that the window blanket is in the car and most sales people demonstrate its use.
I am providing you with a copy of Bulletin Number 54 04 96 so that you may draw your own conclusions about what is true and what is not true. In the final analysis it's not important who pays for the window blanket. To the consumer it's irrelevant whether it's the dealer or BMW NA. What is important is that every Z3 customer gets the window blanket at the time of delivery. Hopefully, with this information every new Z3 customer will make sure their sales person does what they should do.
