Friday- the road to 1 Lap
Honest,
it was Emmy giving the directions. I’m sorry but I can’t stand
Connecticut traffic. I tried taking the Merritt Parkway, since it is
listed as a "Best Road" on Car and Driver’s site. Even C&D warn ya
that the road has a lot of traffic and they weren’t kidding. I know why
there are no stoplights on that road, even though it slows to less than
25mph frequently for no apparent reason. I mean NO reason. Not so much
as a dead squirrel in the road. They have no stoplights because if they
did, people like me would get out of our cars and punch the driver in
front of us at every light. Hey Connecticut drivers, if you have arms,
use them to turn on your turn signals- even ONCE would be nice. OK so
Emmy said, "Enough of this crap, I am taking an exit."
Even though
that first attempt put us right back on the Merrit Parkway, and the
second attempt put us into wall to wall malls... the next thing I knew
we were twisting down sunlit twisties down to a really sweet little
ferry, from one side of nowhere to another. Twisties on either side.
This nice lady in the van explained the ferry just goes back and forth all day, and for $2.25 you can have a ride.
Here comes the ferry...
and
check out the castle on the hill. That is Gilette Castle, built by a
big broadway star back in the days when every celebrity had homes like
this. Now it belongs to the state.
Emmy waits behind the van.
Now
hereis the first of two pics that imho settle the question of whether
folks are staring at us or the cars. Look at this guy, it’s definitely
the car.
They closed the gate behind her and we’re off. I swear she is smiling. Thanks for taking me on the ferry Emmy.
Yep, definitely the car.Todd’s
warm hose was not far from the ferry, and I gave Emmy a good wash and a
coat of Zaino into the night. That left loads of pink stuff on her the
next day. Jon T showed up shortly after me at Todd’s with more horror
stories of Connecticut drivers, this time on I-95. Hanging out at
Todd’s house was one of the best parts of the drive, despite the
chicken. Don’t ask about the chicken. Or the goats. (What’s that sound?
:D) Thanks again Todd for the extraordinary hospitality!
