Printed July 17, 2001 This is the story of Z3 Fixit Day 2001, as told by it's participants. These are their pictures and stories, so many pictures that I couldn't link them all back to their source. To see whose picture it is, please look at the source directory of the picture, their name is there. I'd like to thank all the Fixers, Daniels BMW, the vendors for coming out and for contributing so much to make this a great event and to help some homeless folks at the same time we help ourselves and eachother. THANK YOU! It's 8 o'clock on Saturday morning, March 31, 2001. Do you know where the Z3s are? Lining up outside Daniel's service door... of course... This is Joe Millington, the Service Director of Daniels. He's asking... "Are you ready for FIXIT DAY?" We all went fairly nuts... the door rolled open... and in we went...like kids let out of school heading for the candy shop.... |
Melissa PA '99 2.3 Steel Gray Supersprint - Dual Round Footwell Lights TECH - Mike 1. Supersprint Exhaust 2. Footwell lights The tech who worked on my car was Mike - and he did an awesome job - I am so happy with the exhaust and lights! Melissa While Mike and Steve lower the oem exhaust, the Dual Rounds wait between her car and Mick's. Graced with those two fat chrome pipes, her car is lowered to begin the footlight install. The techinicians worked straight through lunch for the second year in a row. They were allowed a little Knish Break, but they wouldn't leave their stations! C'mon, have a little knish... |

Thanks to Alan, I don't have to worry about costly headlight/foglight replacements! Good job guys. Next year, we do the WHOLE CAR! No photos from me this year but let me take this opportunity to say that I SO look forward to Fixit day. Everyone is just so great and it's great to be able to pal around with a roomful of fellow obsessive Z'ers! |
Chris C '97 1.9 Silver Footwell Lights Custom Paint Thank you very much for organizing me and making Karen and myself feel so welcome. I have owned the car for four years and you know I am pretty intense about it, but this was the first time I ever attended an event like this. I must say I was pleasently surprised with how great the people were. I had the wheel well lights installed and by rear bumper painted. More importantly I met tons of great people I really enjoyed talking to. Thanks again! By the way today I attended my first autocross. That's right I attended it without my car...Rain! Very, Very FUN! Chris C. |

About this time, we were rockin and rolling, in full swing, Z3s everywhere being worked on. Web called us all together for prize drawings and gift giving- as if all they were doing for us wasn't enough! Daniels gave me a beautiful BMW scarf, we gave them back a signed photo from Homecoming 2000. Anyone who was in the photo signed on top of their car. There were many prizes and very much appreciated! We love Daniels. From this photo of BMW headquarters in Germany- carefully hand carried overseas by Web- to the Roundel in the men's room- hey, where's the ladies room Roundels? It's just after noon, why hasn't Jim bought a Z3 yet? He bought one 2 days later. Here's 4 of 5 Z3Girls present, Lisa #1, KathyMack, Cousin Lisa and Rachel...Melissa's busy checking out her new Supersprint. We understand. On Fixit Day even a 500 series has to make way for the little Z3s After lunch and gifts and prizes and a big THANK YOU from Lisa #1, her Mom and the Third Street Alliance Women and Children's Shelter, we were treated to demonstrations by Rob. |

Sean G '98 2.8 Atlanta Blue Regular Seats to Pat Strut Brace - HMS Supersprint - DTM TECH - Steve Great Show!! This Fix-It day event was truly a Saturday well spent... the weather was just about perfect.. nice enough to be outside.. but not so nice that we would have all been itching to take the tops down and hit the road!! Here is a link to my Photopoint Album for Fix-It day.. I weeded through and removed any poorly composed or focused shots, and ended up with about 65 shots.. I changed the captions to reflect the subject.... Just a recap of the work I had done.. 3/30 - 6pm: my friend Tom shows up at my house with his bag.. he packed for a week... I said "Tom, just because your SAAB Conv. has a trunk as big as a walk in closet does not mean you will be able to fit your whole wardrobe in my Z3.." we will address that later.. 3/31 - 12:15am... we arrive at the Super8 and drive immediately to the rear of the building to find a beautiful site of Z3's lined up - ONLY Z3's... yeah!! Park... check in.. tell front desk we must have a rear facing room... 2nd floor will do! As we grab our bags.. there is a minivan sitting at end of row (closes to Rachel's emmy) 3/31 - 7:45am: Time to check out and head to Daniels.. Tom and I meet JonT while waiting for someone to check us out.. I guess JonT decides not to wait and he heads out to take a photo.. 3/31 - 8:00am: We walk to the Z3 parking area behind the Super8 and are greeted by Bruce and Carter.. they offer to lead the way to Daniels.. great idea since we have no way of knowing where we are.. I like following Bruce since he has the Supersprint Exhaust with the DTM tips.. and I will have same by end of day... 3/31 - 8:05am: We arrive at Daniels and line up.. the Fix-It day festivities are about to begin... Tom and I begin meeting people.. names I know from the Z3 message board are being matched up with faces.. and cars... T he 1st place I go is to the Service Counter to get signed in.. get my spot in the Queue... I meet Ann and Pat and we take a few moments to inspect the seats in our cars and confirm that a swap will take place.. PAT and ANN just picked up a new (to them!!) 98 Z3 (to go with the white 1.9 they already have :o) and they felt the Sport Seats were w bit much for them.. so after posting to the message boards.. and my replying to them.. we decided to meet at Fix-It day to make the swap happen.. my standard leather heated seats for thier sport leather heated seats.. each of us gets what we want.. and everyone is happy... meanwhile Tom is off taking in the sights and checking out the other cars already in "Fix-It" mode... I check in and grab a bite to eat... and begin to mingle.. 3/31 - 9:30am: I decide to test drive a 98 M3 sedan.. Black.. so nice!! |

Lisa #1 '00 2.3 Siena Red ZINDRLA Xpel - Replace Hood Guard Summer Twisty Wheels Chrome Tips Trunk Mounted CD "It was a great day. I'm thrilled with everything that happened that day - from the work on my car to the fabulous contributions from everyone for the shelter. I will be calling Web in the morning to see what the story is about the delivery. I would like to go up and help them to pack everything up (and take pictures) and to be there for the delivery. I had the hood xpel replaced, my REAL wheels put back on (I can't believe Bud posted a picture of my car with those butt ugly wheels on it!), chrome tailpipe tips, and a trunk mounted CD changer. You will be glad to know that ZINDRLA got a thorough bath and interior cleaning. Good thing, too, because when I removed all that dirt I found that I must have driven through some type of petroleum product recently that had left some really nasty residue on my car. Took me and my step-father hours to get all of it off. If only I weren't so stupid yesterday, I would gladly have signed up for Carlos to detail my car (his work was amazing). The delivery went smooth and the folks at the shelter were extremely pleased. We ended up with over $600 in check donations and more "stuff" that they thought was possible. The comment from the director of the shelter was "you guys must have big cars to get all this stuff". I took her outside and showed her my car and she was shocked. :) Once they finish sorting everything out - they would like to be able to share with all of those who contributed what was done with some of the items. You would have laughed if you could have seen the staff going through the stuff and picking stuff out that they needed within their individual programs. Pantyhose gathered up by the workforce training person, crayons, paints, glue sticks and such quickly picked out by the daycare people, cleaning supplies gathered up by the residential living director, diapers and wipes secreted away by the shelter director for distribution. It was kind of fun to watch as they got all excited over glue sticks. I can't even imagine how long it will take them to full go through all of those bags, but they were happy beyond belief. This was their single biggest donation they have ever had! They were so impressed by the generosity of people. I just wanted you to know that all went well. I have asked their publicity person who is responsible for the thank you letters and receipts to be sure to include the dealership in these letters. |

My first (fresh meat), and I couldn't have met a better, more welcoming group of people. Not one of them thought I was obsessive about my car. Very cool! Daniel's rolled out the red carpet, Lisa #1 really brought us a great cause, Web from Daniel's treated us like royalty, I got to be part of a super caravan and we owe it all to Rachel. Thanks again for a memorable day. Than aka Tran more pics from Than Rob, our demonstration tech, did all of the work on my car. I washed, and Carlos waxed it. Rachel thanks again. Vin '00 MZ3 Silver Check Alignment & Tie Rods Oil Service Replace Dash Light Repair Strut Tower Brace TECH - Steve I had them check the alignment and the tie rods. (they were fine.) I also had an oil change that a little ahead of time, I had 1 green light left, but the oil was in there for 1 year already. One of the lights behind the dash was out. So they changed that for me, but I found out that night that now 2 of the lights for the gauges are out, I think they were knocked out of place. Good thing I'm going back on Friday. I think the tech that worked on my car was Steve. I had a great time and it was awesome meeting all those people. Thanks again for setting this thing up. If you need anything let me know. |
Mario '97 1.9 Artic Silver Exterior Detail It was a sincere pleasure meeting you Saturday. Great Event. Thank you for bringing Carlos. He Zaino'd my car right after Tom's. After I found out that he is Brazilian and that he spoke Spanish, He and I spoke spanish for the remainder of the day. Please thank him again for me. Besides the Zaino, which made my car look great I also bought some accessory items at the parts counter. I took in excess of 100 images that day and saturday night edited 'em down to 50 keepers. By the time I am done, I think that I will have about 25 images to give to you. Cant do it tonight as I will be heading to Lime Rock this afternoon. Boston Chapter driver school tomorrow. Oh, before the thought escapes me - thanks for the driver school info on your web site - it was after reading your site that I had renewed hope on tracking my Z in the NE. The Day After- Mario's day at Lime Rock |
RichNYC I had (get this) NOTHING done to my car. But now I have a list of what I'm going to do on my car. I had a great time, meet great people, and had a Beer. Please add me to next years Fixit day mailing list. Thanks For all your hard work. More info about Fixit day can be found here: Z3ers.com Rich led the Convoy from New York to Fixit Day, Thanks Rich! Than, Thanks for the pictures. Rachel, Thanks for leading me back home. Organizing Fixit day and the Free beer. Tom, Thanks for leading the convoy to Fixit day at 80 MPH and not telling us till later that you used a $50 refurbished radar detector that you have gotten speeding tickets with before. HEHEHEHE Chris, There is an Exit 52 on I-78. We just wanted to see how fast your car would go to catch up to us. Mick, Because of you I am now thinking about getting a Hardtop on my car. I think I'll send you the bill. They say that the only thing that Z3 owners have in common are there cars, well that's not true. They are also some of the nicest and friendliest people I have ever had a chance to meet. I hope to see everyone in the summer months to come and at Home Coming 2001. Thank you all and drive safe. Bob & Susan Highfield '00 2.3 Dakar Yellow Dinan Chip Xpel - Headlight/Foglight Kit TECH - Rudy "We had Rudy from Daniel's install the Dinan Chip upgrade on our 2000 2.3 and we had Chipless, Inc., install the expel on our headlights. In addition to our wonderful goody bag from Daniel's, complete with Z8 collector's model and BMW cleaning supplies, we won a shearling washing mitt. Great stuff! Give our best to Gary Daniels for sponsoring the event. The dealership was most generous by providing breakfast and lunch in addition to the goody bags and raffle items. They deserve all of the good will that they generated for their business. Each service person and technician treated every person there like royalty. I know we will continue to go there for major service even though it's 2 hours from home. Best of all, the women's shelter really benefited from this event. It's great to know how generous the Z3 folks can be!!" |
Cousin Lisa '99 2.3 Steel Gray Custom Paint Repair Bun Warmers Xpel - Headlight/Foglight Kit Hey, babe. I had a great time! (much to my surprise, as you know!) I won the magnetic screwdriver thingie ( still haven't shown it to Bill) I had mostly body work done - they did a great job fixing up the bottom of the chewed up front bumper and the gashes on the top. After they fixed it, I found the hole another dealer drilled. It's hard to see because it doesn't go all the way through. Just a nice round divot... by the way, the paint guys were wondering if you have a pic of the bumper before the damage... Dave said he thought you already had one somewhere? Color on Parade before and afters I also got my heat seater, er, seat heater fixed. YAY!! Warm Buns!! :-) and of course, I got expelled...;-) Thank you thank you thank you! (I also met many very nice/neat people, who I look forward to seeing again!) |
KathyMack '99 2.3 Ice Blue ****RARE COLOR!**** Paintless Dent Repair Oil Service Brake Fluid Recalls TECH - Bob "John did magic work with paintless dent repair. My tech was Bob--who did oil service, brake flluid and recall. Of course, I won the red Z3 pedal car--which they are sending by UPS because it won't fit in a Z3! I already wrote the service department a thank you note- my mother trained me well and I have never had people be as nice as the folks at Daniels. Of course, I have been to Tim's color site and noticed the rare Ice Blue/Steel Blue color. On the individual color "tag" under the hood, it has the following information- Eisblau Met 439/S FG NR According to Joe Millington at Daniel's, my car was built in March, 1999, and put into service April 29 or 30. I am interested in finding out whatever. I find the whole thing exciting. And to you the truth, I flattered that other people care about the car!"

Jon T '99 2.8 Dark Green TECH: Lou "I had Lou as my tech. He came over to Daniels' after being a VW tech for a long time. he's newer, so he isn't on the Daniels' tech pages, at least as far as I could see. He did a great job, and was patient with me and all my picture taking :-) I had: SuperSprint DTMs |
DaveT '00 2.3 Impala Brown ZS2DAY Oil Service Strut Brace - Dinan Footwell Lights Xpel - Headlight/Foglight Kit Fix Rattling Side Speaker TECH-Steve Steve doesn't mind questions or photos and invites me to walk under the lift if I want to look around. One of the folks from Daniels starts to load the shelter donations into the 500 series wagon. There is no way one wagon will be enough. As we started to unload, John H arrived in dark hardtop. Carter and Bruce arrived shortly thereafter, followed by Pat and Ann. Rachel had arranged with the hotel to block us together in the back where we could park our cars together outside our windows. Install Xpel on headlights and foglights. I had a couple of existing scratches, but after seeing the foglight damage to Rachel's cousin Lisa's Z3, I wanted the protection! Most of the day I spent walking, talking, watching and taking pictures. The demo on installing the spare tire was not one to be missed. Spent a bit of time watching the paint guys repair Cousin Lisa's spoiler. Nice work. Made certain my parts were ordered for the extra work, said my good byes to Web and Joe and headed across the street for drinks and sandwiches with some friends, old and new. On the way home, I had to break away from our little group way too soon for my exit. Lost count of the number of times I played with the footwell lights on the way home. Hard to believe this isn't a factory option. I added an extra half hour to the 3hour drive home by trying out the new strut brace on a few backroads. I imagine there were a lot of smiles hitting the pillows this evening. |
