The Second Big TrafficPro Test: Arlington, VA
About three weeks after the New York trip, I traveled to Arlington, VA
(near Washington, D.C.), to meet a friend for the weekend. Unlike New
York (which I am familiar with), I hadn't been there before, and was
unfamiliar with the town.
As I did for the New York trip, I selected his hotel from the Point of
Interest menu, and hit the road. I did not, however, consult a map or
get directions beforehand. This was a true "blind" test.
The TrafficPro got me there perfectly. The voice prompts were timely,
the visual guide accurate, and the route it had me take was efficient
and easy to follow. And the hotel turned out to be exactly where the
system said it would.
The best part of this test was being able to find a new location
without risking an accident by studying a map or following written
directions. The TrafficPro worked exactly the way it was supposed to,
and freed me up to enjoy the drive, rather than spending my time
looking for landmarks and streets. It was truly impressive.
Final Thoughts: In the end, the TrafficPro worked admirably.
So, is it right for you? On the surface, it might seem tailored to
people who take several long trips. However, because of its
capabilities as a receiver and CD player (the sound quality is
excellent), anyone with interest in navigation should take a good, hard
look at it. It certainly proves itself enjoyable as an everyday
receiver and impresses as a navigation system.
