Sounds like what happened to me - they probably did not calibate it well or in a good location as described in the manual (in an open area away from close buildings). Try recalibrating and redoing the set up.

If you press the "ON" button within that minute it will stay on for a hour.
If you press the "ON" button with the ignition off, it will come on and stay on for a hour.

Thanks Ron...

I think we have a classic case of us not reading our manuals...

But again, thanks Ron.

Update - this weekend I finally found the time to pull the TP and check things out. It works now. All I did was unplug everything, let it sit (to loose the settings), plug everything back in, power it up, delete the calibration data, and redo the initialization process. Viola!

Along the way I confirmed that the antenna was plugged in (if it's out the slightest bit you'll get antenna errors during the first part of the setup) and everything else looked kosher as well.

Anyway, all set now. Thanks all!

This won't help you with your armrest installation, but here's an alternative mounting location. I mounted my ipod mini using a Panavise cell phone mount and ran the cable into the OBD port in the passenger side foot well.
