Haven't been there. If you end up needing the Aux. in cable the Becker part number is 1319.116-276. Burl in parts 1-888-423-3537 ext. 1209.

I'm the one who wired my iPod into my TP. Here's how I did it:

Buy Aux Input harness (Ron mentions it above). I ordered mine at some 2-bit store online that I found by doing a web search. Cost a couple of bucks, no big deal.

This gives you female RCA jacks, to which you can then hook up an RCA-Stereo-Miniplug adapter, which then plugs into the Line Out on the iPod.

To get access to the Line Out on the iPod, you either need a Dock, or one of the various Car Hookup cables available online. Belkin makes a slick unit that gives you a Line Out, and charges the battery off twelve volts. It uses the cigarette lighter, but can be easily dismantled for hardwiring.

As a quick and dirty solution, you can also just plug the RCA-Stereo-Miniplug adapter into the iPod's earphone port. However, this makes it sound very shallow, and you have to drive the iPod at maximum volume, which drains the battery faster.

I ran the Stereo-Miniplug cable from behind the TP out through the OBD II connector opening in the passenger footwell. My iPod sits on the center console, in front of the gearshift. Very clean install. When I get out of the car, I unplug the iPod, drop it in my purse, and the only evidence it was ever there is the miniplug dangling down between the passenger seat and center console.

thanks Ron, I'll see if the aux cable is all that's needed

i don't know if I can manage the work called for for this (plus i do not have the armrest ), but here is the iPod install with the MarkI that I had seen which looked nice:

Ok, since I couldnt find a red unit, I ordered the amber one. Does anyone know how much trouble it would be to change the color to better match the interor of the car? Didnt someone say you could purchase a BMW faceplate and install it?

Glad I could help. Did you go by and talk to Matt?

Thats pretty cool, i think Danno got one the same way.

You will have to let me assist in the install, or just observe.

I talked to Matt on the phone. I went by there and he was gone at lunch. One of his associates called him and told her what to do.

Yeah I bought dan's at the same time.

The install in my Boxster is nearly Plug and play so that won't probably help.

What store is yours coming from?

Its kinda funny. I called every store in the NJ looking for the traffic pros. I found about half a dozen. He couldnt find any and I gave him the store number and bam, he had it.

I think I called the guy in the automotive install dept on Sunday.

Michael,

The wiring harness is cheap. How come you don't get the radio? That's what credit cards are for...

Peace,

I just want to remind everyone that the map data from these things is from 2001.

Anyone that is getting one of these, take the time to email trafficpro@beckerautosound.com and ask when the update is coming.

They claim there will be an update this summer, there hasn't been a single update since the unit shipped.

Maybe if enough of us harass them, they will make sure it happens.

The Price Has Gone Up....

Ok everyone...

I just got back home and wanted to give everyone an update on the TP situation.

I got my friend Matthew at Circuit City to get corperate to do a search of the entire company. They found a total of 9 units that were not display models. (there are quite a few display models left, but what kinda condition they are in, I dont know and dont want to find out)

We found a total of 10 units. One unit went to Matthew. I got the remaining nine, or at least I paid for them and they will be shipped. We didnt find more than one unit at each store, so we had to do some searching. I got them all. We had to get special permission to purchase more than 5. I dont know why.

So heres the list of those who got them...

Me... Have mine in hand, looks good to me. Took 2 days to get it to the store.
DannO...Stoodo ordered it for him
Stoodo...ordered two from matt
Matthew...did all the work, why shouldnt he get one..

Here are the list of those who sent me deposits, in order.... First come first serve... you get the picture.

There are only 9 left at the price of 317.00 plus shipping

Andrew Lai
My Brother
Dwayne Mosley
Vernon Burdette
Howard Dobson
Juan Gonzalez

Thats Six.

There are three left.

Any not spoken for by sunday are going on Ebay to the highest bidder or are going back to circuit city for a refund.

They are NEW, AMBER units. Looks pretty cool to me. Amber is the favorite color. Box is opened, but they told me it was to make sure everything was in there. It appears to have everything. CDs still shrinkwrapped. Warranty valid, and can purchase extended warranty from circuit city if you want for 90 bucks.

If for some reason they dont show up, or they are not in good condition, then last one on the list gets the option of taking it, or getting a refund. But first on the list gets dibs on best unit, and so on. ALL UNITS ARE NEW.

Cost is 299.96 (IT WENT UP A PENNY!!!!) Plus tax of about 18 bucks, plus whatever shipping charges. If you have an account, or want to send me a fedex label already filled out, then I would prefer it. Cashiers checks or postal money orders are preferred, and will get your units to you the fastest. I will wait for checks to clear. I am not making a penny on this, so I dont intend to lose a penny either.

Reason I can get them when others cant is probably because the store here has the new computer system and can look them up some how. I dont really understand it, but I bought all that there were, so if you want one for three hundred, you gotta get one of these three.

I will follow with payment instructions when I actually have the units in hand. Dont want your money if I dont have your TP.

OH, and one more thing... Anyone who gets one from me OWES ME A FAVOR...

There are three that I have paid for that are not spoken for... If you want one, pay pal me $50 bucks and I will hold you one. Pay pal name is "b@bmwmpire.com"

Ok, thats about it. I live a couple miles from danno, so if you know him and prefer to send him money, then thats fine too, just as long as he is ok with it. I didnt ask. But I can deliver it to his house if you want.

Glad I could help.

Brent (Mpire)

Call 407 947 1227 if you want one of the last 3

Will post pix tomorrow if I can figure out how of the unit I got in my hands here.

Way to go!!!! Thanks so much for your help.

As soon as you email me your address, your money is on the way. I also want to be sure I pay enough to compensate you for the fees Paypal charged against the deposit amount. I want you to be "whole" on this deal. Let me know how much I owe you including those fees.

I ordered my "aux in" cable from Becker yesterday afternoon. Finally a way to input mp3 players and satellite radio.

Thanks again.
