Come to my house
Day Three- 1/4 Lap of America Taleisin Here the stairs and walls move, in deference to the trees A man builds a wall, in familiar geometric forms. Does the cat match with the wall or the wall match the cat? JTP passes under a roof of vines. Simplicity and beauty everywhere you look. Accents in blue, shutters in Cherokee Red. Are they shutters or decorative? This shot is a great example of all things FLW. Adding art from his endless collecting, like the soft edged detailed wood carving, exquisite in it's own right, to the upper level of this stairway makes it a balcony overlooking the gentle stone walls. The walls themselves are geometrically pleasing. Light from nowhere catches on the far end of the yellow/gold-colored ceiling and dissipates into a darker sand color with broad impressionist strokes as it approaches. The door itself is a design, breaking into smaller defined panes of glass. Always always a space for something green to grow. Intentional. Never mind the croquet set. Too many shots were ruined by hoses left in gardens on a rainy day.:( The upper window is not just hexagonal, it's a polygon with no equal sides. Who would make a window like this? Or the window beside it? Just decorative wood slats- probably functional square cutouts in the roof. Or did he just favor the functional hexagonal cutouts he had to put into the cantilevered trellis at Kentuck Knob? Everywhere your eye falls, it rests. The cat, the bell, the house and the stones blend so well together you can barely see the mallet. More garages. These were probably for the fleet his apprentices used... but that part of the story I can not tell you yet... Just know that FLW is credited with inventing the car port... and had gas pumps in his garages before he even had cars.... and... no... no... have to wait until we get to Oak Park.... |
