The nice trucker had a route around the usual hassle of H burg, using 501 and 422 to 283. With all my spare time, I made up a route:

Exit 6
419 S
501 S
772 W
441 S
pass route 30 take second bridge which is
462 W
through York it becomes
234 W

I asked Lisa to check online if there really is a route like this and she confirmed it and gave my route a thumbs up.
JonT and I took the new route and it was just frikin grand.
