September 11, 2006 - With the Heroes
Page 8 - Ladder 111 Engine 214 invades Iraq
Now it's time to head to Engine 214 and |
Ladder 111... to deliver more gifts from the troops thanking them
for sending shirts from their firehouse. |
Once again, just after we arrived we were lucky the firefighters
arrived- after fighting a fire. 111 rolls in. |
Captain Berube and the crew stand by the memorial to their brothers
lost on 9-11-01 to hear the words of the troops read by Kevin. |
I try to explain to the troops what it's like when I show up at
a FDNY firehouse with news from them. They call everyone out and
everything stops, waiting to hear anything from the troops. |
it is instantly solemn |
These are all just the most caring and generous people on Earth,
the firefighters and the troops. |
And the last of my gifts from the troops are delivered to the firehouses
that sent gifts for Christmas 2005. And we're ready to do it again
